TIMELINE: 6/10 Contamination GoLocal Investigation

A GoLocal exclusive investigation over the past 26 months unveiled how tons of contaminated material were dumped next to homes in with pregnant women and small children in Providence.

The dumping by Massachusetts-based Barletta Heavy Machine -- the lead contractor on the 6/10 project -- has now led to state charges.

This alleged illegal dumping all took place under Rhode Island Department of Transportation Director Peter Alviti.

On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha levied charges against Barletta and one its former top players.

GoLocal's investigation tracks back through three years of events and a massive paper trail. It includes a web of relationships — including political fundraisers and thousands of dollars in donations.

To date, this investigation has unveiled battles between union leaders, how families have been impacted, and, maybe most importantly, how it all came to light after a whistleblower stepped forward.

As a result of the reporting, both federal and state investigations were sparked.

GoLocal has secured more than 10,000 pages of documents from state agencies in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
