Twin River Study Shows Benefits of Table Games

The results of an Economic Impact Study conducted by Twin River Casino in Lincoln show that the addition of table games at the casino would provide Rhode Island with millions of dollars in revenue as well as new jobs.

John E. Taylor, Jr., the Chairman of the Twin River Board of Directors, revealed these results last night at the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting. The study found that the casino, which presently only has slot machines and virtual gaming tables, currently contributes $165 million per year to the state, and this amount would increase to $227 million if table games were added. It would also create approximately 650 new jobs.

“These economic impact realities and forecasts are in addition to the approximate $270 million we will contribute to the State in gaming revenue, and the approximate $5.5 million which will be paid to the Town of Lincoln in 2011,” said Taylor.

The study was conducted by the Innovation Group of Florida. It also evaluated what would happen to Rhode Island if full casino gaming began in Massachusetts, which currently has plans to build three destination casinos. Since around half of all visitors to Twin River are from Massachusetts, if these plans were realized they would cost Twin River over 25% of its revenue and cost RI approximately $100 million in gaming profits.

Mr. Taylor said, “Perhaps the single most important thing we can do to ensure the long term future viability of Twin River is to expand our product offering to include table games. We are asking the entire Rhode Island community to join us in beginning a dialogue with our state’s elected leaders to allow the voters of Rhode Island to make the decision of expansion based upon these facts.”
