Kilmartin Calls for Oversight of Casino Gambling

“With Massachusetts on the cusp of full-fledged casino gaming, there is increasing pressure to expand gambling in our state,” Kilmartin said. “Should the voters of Rhode Island have the opportunity to choose to move forward on full-fledged casino gambling, the proper oversight must be in place to protect Rhode Island from criminal influence in this industry.”
As a state rep, Kilmartin sponsored a bill that if passed would have created the Division of Gaming Control Enforcement in the Office of Attorney General. The division would have reviewed all applications for a casino gaming license and, once those were approved, it would have continued to monitor casino operations.

“In order to remain competitive economically with our neighboring states, Rhode Island may have to expand casino gaming in the near future,” Kilmartin said. “As Attorney General, I will continue to push for passage of a comprehensive law aimed at enhancing our state’s ability to control casino gambling and protect Rhode Island taxpayers and citizens from the potential harms associated with it.”
