Up to 8 Inches of Snow Now in Forecast - Winter Storm Warning Issued

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning for Providence and areas to the north on Sunday into Monday morning. 

The warning, which goes into effect at 1 PM on Sunday, says total snow accumulation could be 4 to 8 inches.

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 7 AM EST MONDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches.

* WHERE...Portions of northern Connecticut, eastern Massachusetts, and northern Rhode Island.

* WHEN...From 1 PM this afternoon to 7 AM EST Monday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. 1 to 2" per hour snowfall rates are possible between 6 pm and midnight. The snow will have come to an end in time for the early Monday morning
  commute...but untreated roads will remain snow-covered and slippery with temperatures well below freezing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Snow, possibly mixed with rain before 2 am, then a chance of snow between 2 am and 4 am. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 15. North wind 8 to 13 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches is possible.

A slight chance of snow showers after 1 pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 26. North wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. The chance of precipitation is 20%.

A slight chance of snow showers before 8 pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 6. Wind chill values as low as -2. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. The chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tuesday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 19. West wind 5 to 9 mph.

Tuesday Night
A slight chance of snow showers after 3 am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 3. Calm wind. The chance of precipitation is 20%.
