VIDEO and PHOTOS: Providence Pedestrian Bridge Officially Opens

The Providence Pedestrian Bridge officially opened on Friday morning and was dedicated by Governor Gina Raimondo and other federal and state officials.

The designs for the bridge were submitted in 2010 and the bridge was to be completed in three years.

On Friday, state and federal officials joined together to celebrate the $21.9 million project.

U.S. Senator Jack Reed, Congressman David Cicilline joined Raimondo.

As GoLocalProv reported on Friday, the new bridge will be turned over to the city of Providence for just $1, according to a document secured by GoLocal.

The agreement signed in 2011 between state officials and then-Mayor Angel Taveras’ administration outlines the conditions for the transfer of the new bridge.

The Providence City Council approved the plan in a resolution in 2011.

According to police officials, the bridge has already been tagged and skateboarders have been on the bridge causing some damage to the wood finish
