Woman Hospitalized Following Baseball Bat Attack in Providence

Shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, police responded to the intersection of Academy Avenue and Roanoke Street for a report of two women being assaulted.

The woman told police when she slowed down, that assailants approached her car and pulled her from the vehicle.
She said she was hit by baseball bats in an attack by two individuals.
Her friend told police she was punched during the altercation.
The women said their phones were taken in the attack and that they were eventually able to get back into their vehicle and flee the scene before calling police.
Police noted the victim of the bat attack had swelling to her face and cuts on her body; she was taken to Rhode Island Hospital by rescue.
Detectives are currently investigating.
