Biden Wins Big in Tuesday's Primaries

Former VP Joe Biden
Former Vice President Joe Biden continued his momentum in Democratic primaries across the country on Tuesday.

Biden scored a huge win over U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders in Michigan by 16 points and won every county. Sanders had won the state four years earlier.

In Mississippi, Biden won more than 81% of the vote.

Biden also won Idaho and Missouri.

North Dakota and Washington are too close to call — Sanders is leading in both states as of 5 AM EST.

If Sanders' margins hold in those two states, Biden’s lead still continues to be nearly insurmountable. Biden now leads the delegate count 823 to 663.

“Barring something unforeseen, Democrats now know that former vice president Joe Biden will be the party’s nominee to challenge President Trump in November,” writes the Washington Post.

But with Tuesday’s results, he has solidified his lead in the delegate battle and, with the states that will hold their primaries in the next two weeks, that advantage inevitably will grow. Sanders has little time and few delegates remaining to be selected to have much chance of changing the trajectory.

Arizona, Florida, Illinois, and Ohio hold primaries next Tuesday. Sanders lost all four to Hillary Clinton in 2016, in many cases by big margins.
