UPDATED: Biden Wins in South Carolina - Stops Sanders' Streak

Former Vice President Joe Biden may have saved his campaign for the Democratic nomination for President with a win in the South Carolina primary.

Biden crushed Bernie Sanders in South Carolina -- winning nearly 50% of the vote. 

Biden won 48.4% of the vote and Sanders, just 19.9%.

The former Vice President is now the top vote-getter through the first four caucuses and primaries. Biden has won 323,244 votes. Sanders has won 268,065.

Sanders, however, continues to lead in the delegate count 60-54 over Biden.

Biden may owe the win to South Carolina Congressman Jim Clyburn — according to a CNN exit poll, 47% of respondents said that the Congressman’s endorsement of Biden was the main reason or part of their decision. 

The win stops the momentum and winning streak of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders.

South Carolinians assigned 54 delegates on Saturday.

It’s the largest delegate haul of any of the first four primary and caucus states to date.

There will be 1,357 delegates up for grabs on Super Tuesday.

Coming into South Carolina, Sanders led Biden 45 to 15 in the delegate count.

Billionaire Tom Steyer -- who dropped out of the race following South Carolina -- spent more than $22 million just in TV and social media ads in the state — that does not include the campaign’s costs for the organization and ground game.
