Guest MINDSETTER™ Paul D. Santilli: Not a Dime From Taxpayers for Downtown Stadium

A baseball pie-in-the-sky stadium that would be seasonal - What a lame proposal.

An $85 million baseball stadium that James Skeffington and his group want the TAXPAYERS to pay $120 million for, not to mention asking the financially strapped city of Providence to waive property taxes on for the next 30 years.

What a Joke!

The state has a great I-195 plan in place. This Knowledge/Jewelry District land is valuable and the Skeffington group wants the state to give it to them. Really? The reclaimed land is there to encourage business and for corporations to bring high paying corporate jobs, not ushers, ground keepers and ticket sellers - all menial jobs that are seasonal.

What's wrong with Pawtucket? I have read that the Pawtucket stadium does not measure up to the other Triple A stadiums. Here is a thought- take $5-$10 million and bring it up to those standards. Pawtucket has always been a great neighbor, keep it there!

But I digress… For those of you who don't know the Skeffington group of Terence Murray, Former CVS CEO Tom Ryan, and William Egan, to name a few, have given millions to a comprised group of the Governor and other legislative leaders. Don't think for one minute that that money doesn't buy something- and I don't  mean a hot dog or hamburger.

But I digress further… another major issue that has developed is all of the recent utility infrastructure under the land that would need to be relocated. Skeffington, with a smug smile, says he will find the $5 million (which i believe is under stated by $7 - $8 million) to move the infrastructure.

Memo to Skeffington: your group is worth millions, no wait, billions. Use your own damn money and if you’re not keeping it in Pawtucket find another suitable Rhode Island location. You call yourself and your group Rhode Islanders and say you want to do what's best for the State.

I know with you and the rest of your insider cronies it's all about the millions you want to reap for your group - screw the taxpayers, just like 38 Studios.

I, for one, have had enough of these very bad insider deals.
