Guest MINDSETTER™ Taub: Cicilline's Town Hall Meeting was an Embarrassment

David Cicilline
I watched Representative David Cicilline's recent Town Hall meeting in Cumberland. I was saddened that it was such an embarrassment not only to the Jewish community, but also to the whole state. My anger at the Congressman’s lack of concern for either his issues or his constituents made me start thinking about running again, myself, to try and fix this problem.

Mr. Cicilline refers to himself as a Jewish Voice for Rhode Island. That title was instantly called into question when he appeared to know nothing at all about the Taylor Force Act. For his edification, I referenced H.R. 1164, an act that would cut-off funds to the Palestinian Authority until it changed its laws regarding financial support for the so-called Palestinian Martyrs Fund. In essence, the PA takes US Taxpayer Dollars and gives them to the survivors of Jihadis who kill Israeli Jews or attack Israeli property. My own Congressman, the self-styled Jewish Voice of Rhode Island, could not commit himself to voting for this ban. Some voice!

Worse yet, his own staffers, feeding him details during the Q&A, contradicted their boss that he’d met with pro-Taylor Force advocates. Who’s lying? He also stumbled on the subject of the Palestinian initiative to get worldwide boycott, divestment, and sanctions of Israel, BDS for short. The so-called Jewish Voice of the Ocean State could not bring himself to condemn these efforts against Israel or to commit to a vote in favor of the Anti-Israel Boycott Act (S.720 & H.R.1697).

Still, my greatest incentive to take another run at this guy was the understanding I got from his performance of what he’d actually done for the District and the State during this term, so far. Nothing. No meaningful policy positions. No bills passed. Nothing but Resist, Resist, Resist.

I imagine half the District is considering taking on Mr. Cicilline in 2018, and as of this terrible Town Hall, I count myself in that camp.
