Guest MINDSETTER™ Taub: An Inexcusable Position

David Cicilline
I write concerning a recent bill voted on in Washington, D.C. It was H.R. 115 – “The Thin Blue Line Act” – and it placed a potential death penalty on anyone who kills a law enforcement officer, firefighter or first responder. It seems that both Congressmen David Cicilline and Jim Langevin have chosen to vote against the bill.

I find the congressmen's position inexcusable. Women and men, our friends, neighbors and family members, should have the peace of mind to know that if someone takes the life of a first responder, a person who is putting his or her life on the line while coming to the aid of other people, he will experience the ultimate penalty – death. One can argue the merits of the death penalty, but when it comes to our first responders I believe they deserve all the tools, protections and support we can provide them.

I am sure all our citizens want the best for the men and women who serve us. It appears, however, that Reps. Cicilline and Langevin have just followed their party line, without consideration for the people they serve – the people of Rhode Island.
