Meet the Candidates: Representative Jan P. Malik

Rep. Jan Malik
Meet the candidates this election year. GoLocal is featuring all the candidates for General Assembly, those running for Mayor in cities across the state, and the Congressional candidates. This feature allows each candidate the opportunity to express their views on the issues. Meet Jan P. Malik who is running for re-election in House District 67.

1.  What do you think is the biggest political issue this campaign season in Rhode Island?

I think the biggest issue to the voters this campaign season is the economy and making sure that Rhode Islanders have the jobs that they need to properly provide for themselves and their families.

2.  What do we need to do to improve Rhode Island's economy?

In order to make Rhode Island’s economy stronger, we need to adapt to the current global economy that is in existence.  The economy has changed so much since the Great Recession and we at a state level have to adapt by preparing our residents for the jobs of the future.  Investment in training is critical so that Rhode Islanders are capable of executing the types of well-paying jobs that are available.

3.  What is the greatest challenge facing Rhode Island as a state?

The greatest challenge we face as a state is that too many of our residents are still struggling so hard just to get by and make ends meet on a daily basis.  Having a job is simply not enough anymore.  Our residents need jobs that can provide for their families and when the people have more money in their pockets to spend, it will help our small businesses expand and our economy will grow.

4.  Why are you running for office? What makes you uniquely qualified?

I am running for reelection because the residents of District 67 in Barrington and Warren still need a strong and experienced advocate up on Smith Hill fighting for what matters to them most: a better economy, more jobs, properly funded schools, and protecting their hard earned tax dollars.

5.  Who is your inspiration?

My wife, Mary, is my true inspiration.  Without her, I would not have my two beautiful children and she inspires me everyday to be the best man I can possibly be in this world.
