Magaziner Drops Out of Governor’s Race, Will Run for Congress

General Treasurer Seth Magaziner, who was widely rumored to be exiting the 2022 gubernatorial race to run for Congress, made his official announcement Wednesday.
Magaziner’s prospects for upsetting Governor Dan McKee’s reelection was severely damaged when former corporate CEO Helena Foulkes jumped in the race.

“The fight to preserve our democracy is the most sacred obligation of this generation and this is why I’ve decided to seek to represent the people of Rhode Island’s second congressional district in the United States House of Representatives," said Magaziner. “National Republicans like Donald Trump and Kevin McCarthy seek to divide America, undermine democracy, and appeal to the most chaotic, hateful and dangerous elements of their party. Rhode Island must do our part to ensure that they do not succeed.”
“Every day, Republicans in Washington demonstrate they care more about doing Donald Trump’s bidding than they do about defending the constitution or delivering results for working families," he added. "It’s critical Rhode Island Democrats field a proven general election candidate who can prevent the Republicans from taking back this seat in Congress.”
In September 2021, Magaziner had said the following about running for Governor.
“I’m running for governor because I believe the future of our state is hanging in the balance, and we must build a new, modern, resilient economy that gives every Rhode Islander a real chance to succeed, ” said General Treasurer and gubernatorial candidate Seth Magaziner. “Now is the time to bridge divisions and to move past the old ways of doing things. We must seize this moment to build the future that Rhode Islanders deserve.”
