RI Legislators to Skydive for RI Community Food Bank

RI Legislators will take a big leap to help address hunger in RI this Sunday.
Current and former legislators -- and a spouse -- will be taking a "legislative leap" this Sunday at Skydive Newport to raise funds for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

The group of ten, led by Representative Bobby Nardolillo, is scheduled to fly at 10 AM.

Nardolillo said he is "thrilled" to have coordinated the event to help end hunger in Rhode Island.

“The participation of fellow legislators, the spouse of one representative and legal counsel to a House Committee is terrific," said Representative Nardolillo.

Story Behind the Leap

Nardolillo was with Representatives Robert Lancia and Joseph Solomon, Jr. at the recen Navy Day, where they were "making small talk" while waiting for Navy skydivers.

Nardolillo asked his colleagues if they had ever jumped, who said ‘no." But Nardolillo had -- and suggested they try it, and which he says is when he came up with the idea to coordinate "Skydiving for a Cause – taking the Legislative Leap" to recognize September being Hunger Action Month.

The event was devised to create an unusual fundraising event for the RI Community Food Bank (the event and donation page can be found HERE).

Who's Participating

Representatives Jen Philippe Barros, Doreen Costa, Robert Craven, Jay Edwards, Robert Lancia, Karen MacBeth, and James McLaughlin are slated to participate along with Nardolillo.

Former Representative Charles Knowles and Nancy Phillips, wife of Representative Robert Philips, will also take part.
