RI State Rep Questions Coronavirus Safety Precautions as Assembly Returns on Wednesday

“Let’s hope all House members will wear masks on Wednesday and Thursday when were are called back to session since it appears the plexi boxes they crafted for us do not actually cover the area we inhabit, our chairs,” she Tweeted.
Tanzi shared a meme of Queen’s Freddy Mercury, changing the “We Will Rock You” song lyrics to “No mask on your face, a big disgrace, spending your germs all over the place.”

She went on to Tweet, “Maybe this will inspire Reps to comply since the plexiglass sweatboxes/greenhouses they have custom built for us clearly won’t. Still not sure why we have to go against CDC guidelines and meet in the state house. We could safely meet at the convention center & socially distance.”
“I mean, it’s not like minimum of 25% of us are over 60 and/or have pre-existing medical condition,” she Tweeted as well.
State House Guidelines
According to the General Assembly’s press release announcing the return to session, the State House remains closed to the public, so only legislators, staff, members of the news media and visitors on official business are permitted into the building.
Plexiglass enclosures are being installed to shield the front and sides of each legislator’s desk. While members are not being required to wear masks while in their desk enclosures, they are being required to wear them elsewhere in the building and are being asked to practice safe social distancing.
They are also being encouraged to watch the proceedings in offices throughout the building during longer debates and to return to the chamber to vote or speak. Enhanced sanitization of work areas is being performed.
