Taylor Announces Finance Committee

Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor Catherine Taylor has announced the formation of her campaign finance committee.

Tony Bucci, of Bucci Insurance Group, will chair the committee.

“I can barely express my appreciation for the intense support from my committee members,” Catherine said. “Their enthusiasm and drive is a true inspiration. I’m excited to continue working with them to bring my message to voters statewide.”

RI Delegation to Present Fundraiser for Elorza

Senator Reed, Senator Whitehouse, Congressman Langevin, and Congresman Cicilline will hold a fundraiser for Democratic candidate for Mayor Elorza.

The fundraiser will take place on October 2 at The Providence Marriott on 1 Orms Street.

The RI Coalition for Payday Lending Reform Applauds New DoD Lending Rules

Rhode Island members of The Rhode Island Coalition for Payday Lending Reform applauded the Department of Defense for issuing new proposed rules to protect servicemembers and their families from predatory lending practices.

“The military has rightly identified protecting members of the armed services and their families from abusive lending practices as vital to military readiness,” the Rev. Dr. Don Anderson, coalition co-chair, said. “Exploitation, in any form, of the very people who protect our country is clearly wrong. We believe the rules announced today will crack down on predatory practices and strengthen our community as a whole. The fewer people trapped in a cycle of debt, the better.”  Anderson also noted “the coalition’s deep appreciation for the leadership of Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed and his long commitment to ending predatory lending practices.”

“The last few years have shown that predatory lenders are, unfortunately, innovative, and they often have friends in high places,” Margaux Morisseau, coalition co-chair, said. “Today’s new rules are a mark of the Department of Defense’s true commitment to doing what is in the best interest of servicemembers.” 

Elorza and Solomon to Host Unity Event

Democratic candidate for Mayor, Jorge Elorza, and his former opponent Michael Solomon will host an event on September 27 at 4 p.m.

The event will be at Club Juan Pablo Duarte on 100 Niagara St.
