Trillo to File Complaint Against Fung Over Illuminated Digital Billboard Signs

Joe Trillo to file complaint against Allan Fung
Gubernatorial candidate Joe Trillo is filing a complaint against Mayor Allan Fung for campaign violations.

According to Trillo’s campaign, Fung is using several illuminated digital billboard signs in North Providence, which he did not report on his campaign finance reports.

“Allan Fung has been utilizing three corporate owned, illuminated digital billboard signs along major thoroughfares in North Providence, since December 3, 2017, but never officially reported paying for any such advertising on his past or present campaign finance reports. This is a violation of Rhode Island campaign finance laws, and yet another example of Allan Fung’s clear and intentional mismanagement of his campaign finances,” said Trillo.

Trillo will file his complaint with the Rhode Island Board of Elections on Monday at 1 p.m.

Complaints Against Fung

Trillo’s complaint comes a week after both Governor Gina Raimondo and Patricia Morgan filed complaints against Fung for alleged campaign finance legalities.

According to Morgan’s press release, “Fung has used space owned by the Carpionato Group as his headquarters throughout the previous three election cycles, receiving refunds for his campaigns’ rent payments at different points following the 2014 and 2016 elections.”

“How can a guy who went to law school continue to plead ignorance over and over again, as embarrassing details of repeated campaign violations keep surfacing in the media, including getting free rent for his campaign headquarters in Cranston.  The problem is that unlike the rest of us, Allan Fung doesn’t feel that Rhode Island law applies to him,” said Trillo.

Fung responded to Morgan and Raimondo’s complaints by saying, “This is nothing but a desperate attempt at grabbing headlines from candidates who feel threatened with recent poll numbers. This is about $2500 in rent that the campaign has paid; nothing more and nothing less. We will have no further comment on this non-issue of a matter. Mayor Fung's sole focus is addressing the actual crisis Rhode Islanders are facing daily.”
