Wood and Kammerer Responded to Jackson’s Objections Filed With the Board of Canvassers

Leaders of the effort to recall Councilman Kevin Jackson released a statement on Friday evening in response to the objections filed by Jackson's attorneys with the Providence Board of Canvassers. Read their full statement:

Statement by Karina H. Wood and Patricia Kammerer in response to Councilor Jackson’s “Specific Objections Filed” to the Board of Canvassers re Recall Petition

Council Member Kevin Jackson’s filed objections to Ward 3 residents Declaration of Intent for Petition to Recall are so petty they are laughable.  He and his attorney have nit-picked through 360 valid signatures that were previously certified by the Providence Board of Canvassers.  Their insignificant objections include such things as:   (1) signature on the wrong line; (2) printed name on the wrong line; (3) omission of the word “Kevin” between the words “Councilman” and “Jackson;” (4) omission of a middle initial of a notary; (5) handwriting slightly in the area of the form that says “For Board Use Only.”

Councilman Jackson continues to disenfranchise the voters of Ward 3 with his legal machinations meant to delay and intimidate.   Once again, we stand by the integrity of the 360 signatures previously certified by the Providence Board of Canvassers. We are disturbed that Jackson is not only suing 2 of his constituents, but also seeking to silence the voices of 360 residents of Ward 3 who freely chose to express their 1st Amendment right to sign a petition to put Jackson’s recall to a vote.

It strikes us as highly ironic that the basis of many of Jackson’s objections have to do with incorrect name spellings and name omissions when his own signature objection misspells Patricia Kammerer’s name 2 different ways:  Kamerer, Kamerrer.
