Delaware led 10-9 early in the first half but then URI went on a 20-4 run and used their lock down defense the rest of the way to get back on the winning track after a tough loss to Providence earlier in the week.

Rhode Island dominated defensively, blocking a season high nine shots and holding Delaware State to a shooting percentage of 25 from the field.
Kendall Williams led Delaware St. with ten points while Kendall Gray dished out nine assists in the loss.

Five Takeaways From URI's 83-44 Win Over Delaware St.
E.C. Matthews
A quiet 14 points for E.C. Matthews in the game, it was still good enough to lead the team.
Matthews went five of nine from the field, pulling down three rebounds and dishing out two assists.
On the defensive end, he also added two blocks and a steal.
Garrett, Reischel & bench
Jarelle Reischel and Jarvis Garrett both had big games coming off the bench for the Rams.
Reischel had 10 points and seven rebounds in 13 minutes played, while Garrett had 10 points and six assists in 21 minutes played. Garrett also added three rebounds and a steal to his stat line.
The Rams bench outscored Delaware St. 33-19 in the contest.
Free Throws
It didn't cost them in this game but free throws have been a problem all season for the Rams.
URI took 33 free throws in this game against Delaware and only converted on 18 of them. Those numbers are good for 55 percent from the line.
The free throws didn't make a difference in this game, but they will in future games.
Points in the Paint
After having trouble solving the Providence 2-3 zone in the last game, URI came back in this one and put up 54 points in the paint.
Gilvydas Biruta was a big part of that, netting 13 points to lead the group of forwards in scoring. All 13 of his points came in the paint on either dunks or layup's.
URI needs to establish this type of pain presence on a more consistent basis, 54 points every night is probably unrealistic but at least that mentality.
Rams Defense
Rams forward Hassan Martin had three blocks of his own as the Rams had a season high nine blocked shots in the game.
They also forced 17 turnovers, ten of which were steals. Martin also led the team in that category with three steals. The Rams converted those 17 turnovers into 18 points in the game.
Delaware St. shot just 25 percent from the field and 21 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
