6 Yankees Test Positive for COVID, Red Sox Series in Question
Six players on the New York Yankees have tested positive for Covid-19, general manager Brian Cashman told reporters Thursday. This is the second time this season the Yankees have had breakthrough COVID cases.
Thursday night's game between the Yankees and the Red Sox was postponed and the rest of the series is in question.
"We have three positives, and we have three pending that we've had rapid tests on," Cashman said, saying the three positive rapid tests are being confirmed with additional lab work.
The players with confirmed positive tests are pitchers Jonathan Loaisiga, Nestor Cortes Jr. and Wandy Peralta, according to the team. The three unnamed players have results pending.
All the three named players were vaccinated. Two of the players received Johnson & Johnson vaccines and the other was from either Pfizer or Moderna, Cashman says.
According to ESPN, “All-Star outfielder Aaron Judge was among six New York Yankees players who tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, forcing the postponement of their home game against the Boston Red Sox that was supposed to open Major League Baseball's second half and leaving other players on the American League All-Star team undergoing testing to ensure they didn't contract the virus…”
