Celtics Trade Bradley to Pistons for Marcus Morris

Avery Bradley traded to Detroit
The Boston Celtics have traded guard Avery Bradley and a future second round pick to the Detroit Pistons for forward Marcus Morris.

With the trade, the Celtics now have enough cap space ($30.8 million) to sign free agent Gordon Hayward to a $29.7 million contract.

There was previously talk of a sign and trade with the Utah Jazz involving forward Jae Crowder, but the trade fell through on Friday morning.

Avery Bradley

Bradley was drafted by the Celtics with the 19 overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft.

Bradley was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive first team after the 2015-16 season and was the top vote-getter among players not named to the first or second team this season.

In 2016-17, he averaged 16.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, helping Boston to the Eastern Conference final where they lost in five games to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The trade leaves Marcus Smart as the longest tenured player on the Celtics roster.

By acquiring Morris, the Celtics get size and rebounding help.

Morris is a 6’9” 235 pound forward who can also play the center position.

Last season for Detroit, Morris averaged 14 points and 5 rebounds per game.
