Cooley Gets His Win, Georgetown Blows Out PC

PC men's basketball team was blown out by the Georgetown Hoyas (16-10, 7-8 Big East), 93-72, at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., before a crowd of just 5,326. For basketball, the arena holds 20,356.
The Friars fell to 12-15 overall and 6-10 in the conference.

Senior Bensley Joseph led the Friars with a team-high 24 points, six rebounds, and four assists effort. Redshirt sophomore Justyn Fernandez added 11 points.
FIRST HALF:
• Joseph opened the scoring with a driving layup.
• Joseph then scored 12 straight points, including three straight threes, that helped the Friars take a 16-13 lead at the under-12 media timeout (11:03).
• Oswin Erhunmwunse slammed a lob from Joseph that snapped a 10-0 Georgetown scoring run (6:40).
• Fernandez knocked down a three that beat the shot clock to cut the Hoya lead to 29-28 (5:14).
• Fernandez ended a 7-0 Georgetown scoring run with a three to bring the score to 30-31 (2:28).
• Georgetown ended the half with a 19-3 run on offense to take a 48-31 lead at halftime.
• Jospeh was the only Friar to score in double figures in the first half (14).
• Micha Peavy scored 19 points in the first half for Georgetown
SECOND HALF:
• Fernandez started the Friars' second-half scoring with an and-one.
• Georgetown then went on a 9-0 run that extended their lead to 34-59 (16:11).
• Ryan Mela made a driving layup to cut the Georgetown lead to 18 at 41-59 (13:54).
• The Friars had a positive 8-4 scoring stretch following the under-16 media timeout. Georgetown led 63-43 at the under-12 media timeout (11:33).
• Wesley Cardet Jr (Tallahassee, Fla.) scored four straight points for the Friars to cut the Hoya lead to 73-57 (6:18).
• Jayden Pierre hit back-to-back threes for the Friars. Georgetown led 81-67 (3:12).
• The Hoyas continued to edge out the Friars for much of the half, holding a 19-point lead as time expired at 93-72.
HIGHLIGHTS:
• Three players finished in double figures for the Friars: Joseph (24), Fernandez (11) and Pierre (10).
• Georgetown's Micha Peavy finished with a game-high 30 points.
• Providence and Georgetown each recorded 36 rebounds.
NOTES:
• PC has now registered a 38-48 mark all-time versus Georgetown, including a 12-26 record on the road.
• PC has posted a 1-3 mark this season against former coaches (0-2 vs. Pitino, 1-1 vs. Cooley).
