“Remy left a large imprint on the Red Sox organization with a distinguished career as both a player and a broadcaster,” wrote 98.5 The Sports Hub. “After beginning his major league career with the California Angels for three seasons, Remy played for the Red Sox from 1978-84, earning an All-Star nod in ’78. Remy played 710 career games with the Red Sox, most of them at second base.”
While Remy enjoyed success as a player in Boston, he then continued his career in baseball — as NESN’s color commentator for Red Sox games from 1988-2021.
Remy was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2006, and the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2017.
He also owned a number of restaurants and wrote a number of books on baseball.
On August 4, Remy announced he was stepping away from broadcasting for cancer treatment. Remy had been intermittently taking leaves of absence from NESN to focus on his health since 2009.
