Beat the Streets Providence is a local non-profit committed to inspiring urban youth for success in school and life through co-educational wrestling.

"This program has been a life changer for many of our most at-risk students. These students were chronically absent, and performed poorly academically and behaviorally. They were on a path to self destruction. This program helped save them," said Gloria Jackson, principal at Esek Hopkins Middle School.

Programs start with 30 to 45 minutes of homework time, before transitioning to an hour and a half of physical activity as coaches provide instruction to students on the fundamental techniques of wrestling.

"Wrestling means a lot to me. It helped me a lot in my life.To me it means family and success. When I was feeling down it helped pick me back up, with all the new friends I made. Without wrestling I don't know where I would be right now," said 14-year-old Amber Aguilar, who attends school in Central Falls.

Jackson added, "Beat The Streets is an inspiring program that will positively impact lives of the most at-risk students."
