The 4-2 Friars face the University of Wisconsin on Thanksgiving. The Badgers are ranked one spot out of the top 25.
For PC, which has already lost to Virginia Tech and Colorado, there are few opportunities to build a resume for English and the Friars this year outside of the Big East.
This week, PC is in San Diego for the Rady Children's Invitational and first plays Wisconsin today at 5:30 PM on FS1, and then will play TCU or Florida on Friday.
In the KenPom rankings, Florida is ranked #8 and TCU #75. Providence is presently #58.
A double win for the Friars could be a big step for these up-and-down Friars.
In the converse, two losses would be a major blow, and it would get the Friartown boo birds fired up. Those detractors were in good form when the Friars could only pull a small half-time lead over a bad University of New Hampshire team last week.
English - Up and Down
Providence College’s third-year coach has had a violently up-and-down coaching career.
In his first year as the PC head coach, he was 21-14 and 10-10 in the Big East and just missed the NCAA tournament.
Then year two hit. It was supposed to build on the first year’s success, but in fact was a Keno Davis kind of year.
The Friars sank to 12-20 and 6-14 in the Big East.
For English, this Thanksgiving could be the tastiest with a couple of big-time wins or a holiday to forget.
