WJAR-10’s Joe Kayata Announces “I am Getting Out of the TV Business"

Long-time sports anchor and reporter Joe Kayata announced on Wednesday he is leaving WJAR-10 and ending his career in television.

 

In a lengthy tweet, he cited his career achievements and thanked his audience.

Kayata is just the latest of local television personalities who has left the local TV industry.

 

In the past few months, WPRI’s Michelle Muscatello and Danielle North left the station, and WJAR’s Kate Davis announced her departure.

 

Kayata said his departure takes effect at the end of May.

Joe Kayata is an Emmy and Associated Press award-winning sports anchor and reporter at NBC 10.

During his tenure at WJAR, Kayata has been part of two of the greatest decades of sports in New England history. Kayata has covered multiple championship runs for the Patriots, the Red Sox, the Celtics and the Bruins. He also covered the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. Kayata is especially proud of our local sports coverage, including high school sports, college basketball NCAA Tournament runs, and multiple visits to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to cover our local teams at the Little League World Series.

Kayata graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in broadcast journalism. He landed his first on-air job at WTVJ in Miami when he was a junior in college. He reported for a weekly high school football show and a Miami Dolphins weekly magazine show.

Kayata is a Cumberland native and is proud to work at the station he grew up watching.

He doesn't have much free time, but when he does he enjoys spending time with his wife and sons.
