UPDATED: Celtics Hayward Suffers Gruesome Injury in Season Opener

Gordon Hayward
Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward suffered a dislocated ankle and a fractured tibia while going up for an alley-oop with just under seven minutes left in the first quarter of the Celtics season-opening game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Hayward stayed down for several minutes before being taken off the floor on a stretcher with his leg in a cast.

He was then flown via MedFlight to Boston and New England Baptist Hospital.

"You hurt for him. It's a tough, tough deal, but I guess that's part of the risk of injury. I really feel for him," said Celtics head coach Brad Stevens after the game.

Hayward came over to the Celtics from the Utah Jazz in the offseason as a free agent.
