The Ivy League announced Wednesday that it is canceling all spring sporting events, including practices, for the rest of the year due to the spread of coronavirus.

According to the Ivy League, the decision to cancel the remainder of the year was made unanimously by the Ivy League Presidents.

"In accordance with the guidance of public health and medical professionals, several Ivy League institutions have announced that students will not return to campus after spring break, and classes will be held virtually during the semester. Given this situation, it is not feasible for practice and competition to continue," said the Ivy League in a statement.

This comes the day after the league canceled it men’s and women’s basketball tournaments that were set to take place this weekend.

“Individual institutions will decide whether or not winter teams and student-athletes who have qualified for postseason play will participate,” said the Ivy League.

The Princeton women and Yale men’s basketball teams are scheduled to compete in their respective NCAA Tournaments beginning next week.

They were awarded the league’s automatic bids following the cancelations of the Ivy League basketball tournaments.
