Goodell Avoiding New England

Goodell has not been to Gillette Stadium since the 2014 AFC Championship game against the Colts. Deflategate started hours later.

After the Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2014, Goodell skipped the 2015 season opener in which the Patriots hung their fourth championship banner.

Goodell did not make it to any Patriots playoff games this past season, instead going to Atlanta for two straight games.

"I was in Boston two seasons ago for two consecutive playoff games, the same way I was in Atlanta this year. That happens. If I am invited back to Foxborough, I'll come,” Goodell said when asked about it prior to the Super Bowl.

On Monday at the meetings, Patriots owner Robert Kraft welcomed Goodell back.

“As we all know, he has the right to go wherever he wishes to go. And if he wanted to come, he's welcomed to come. We're happy we'll be celebrating our fifth banner."
