The Providence College men’s basketball team beat Brown University on Sunday 74-54.

Brown was 5-28 from the field in the first half.

Just 1-8 from behind the three-point line.

Providence was better and scored 37 points in the first half, but it was no clinic. Often PC seemed to play sloppy — 18 turnovers — 2 more than Brown. Brown had 12 steals to PC’s 7.

Devin Carter led the Friars with 18 points.

PC and Brown had not played each other in the past 6 years.

It might not be a bad idea to skip the next 6 years.

PC moves to 8-2.

FIRST HALF:  

•Josh Oduro (Gainesville, Va.) finished strong in the paint for the Friars' first basket. Providence led 7-5 at the first media timeout. 

•At the 13:40 mark, Carter buried a three-pointer to end a Providence scoring drought. The Friars held a slim 10-7 lead. 

•With 11:20 remaining in the half, Jayden Pierre (Elizabeth, N.J.) found Rafael Castro (Dover, N.J.) for a highlight alley-oop slam.  

•After making their first shot, the Bears missed 13 of their next 15 shots. The Friars held Brown's offense scoreless for over six minutes.  

•In total, the Friars went on a 26-6 run to take firm control of the game, 31-11. The Friars scored nine unanswered points to conclude the run, capped by a full-court transition pass from Corey Floyd, Jr. (Franklin, N.J.) to Carter for a layup.  

•Carter and Garwey Dual (Houston, Texas) nailed back-to-back three-pointers in the final two minutes of the half.  

•The Friars took a 37-13 lead into halftime. Carter was the only player in double figures for Providence (10 points). Nana Owusu-Anane accounted for 11 of Brown's 13 points.  

•Providence shot 15-26 (57.7%) from the field, 5-11(45.5%) from three and 2-3 (66.7%) from the free throw line.   

•Brown shot 5-28 (17.9%) from the field, 1-8 (12.5%) from three and 2-2 (100%) from the free throw line.   

 

SECOND HALF:  

•Carter opened the half by drawing a foul on a three-point shot and making each free throw. The Friars took their largest lead of the game (27 points). Brown responded with a 10-2 scoring run.  

•Ticket Gaines (Buffalo, N.Y.), Bryce Hopkins (Oak Park, Ill.), and Carter each buried a three-ball on consecutive possessions. PC led 51-26.  

•Brown equaled their first half made field goals total (5) in the first five minutes of the second half.  

•With eight minutes remaining, the Friars led 60-34. 

•Brown improved offensively in the second half, shooting above 40% and making four of their previous five shots heading into the game's final media timeout (3:37 mark).  

•With 1:41 remaining, Gaines located Hopkins streaking to the rim for an open dunk.  

 

HIGHLIGHTS:  

Oduro scored his 1,500th point and now has 1,511 points in 124 career games.

•The Friars improved to 97-28 all-time versus Brown.

•Providence finished 26-51 (51.0%) from the field, 8-24 (33.3%) from three and 14-17 (82.4%) from the free throw line.  

•Brown finished 20-52 (38.5%) from the field, 7-18 (38.9%) from three and 7-11 (63.6x%) from the free throw line.    

•Four players finished in double figures for the Friars in Carter (18), Hopkins (17), Oduro (13) and Floyd (10).  

•Brown's 13 first half points is their lowest this season and the lowest the Friars have allowed in a half this season. 

•Nana Owusu-Anane led the way for the Bears with 15 points and nine rebounds.  

•The Friars outrebounded the Bears by a margin of 36-26.  

•The Friars are 43-3 in their last 46 games at the AMP and 625-238 all-time.  

•PC is 103-5 in non-conference home games over the last 14 seasons, including a 26-game unbeaten streak since 2019.
