The Providence College men's basketball team scored a season-low 18 points in the first half and trailed by 20 points or more for much of the Big East tournament battle against the University of Connecticut on Thursday.

The Huskies led by as many as 26 in the second half, but in the final minutes, the Friars repeatedly cut the lead to just five points -- at one point, the Friars had a 20-5 run.

Ultimately, UConn held on for a 73-66 win over PC.

NCAA Tournament in Focus

Now, the Friars need to wait for selection Sunday and see if and where they are seeded.

Most experts at the beginning of the week had PC as a #8 or #9 seed in the NCAA tournament.

The Friars finished the regular season losing four of their last five games.

The ferocious effort against UConn probably protects their selection to the Big Dance.

The Friars' Bryce Hopkins was the leadng scorer with 16 points and 7 rebounds, but shot just 5 of 12 from the field and 0-2 behind the 3-point line.

Noah Locke added 14 points all in the second half — including 4-7 behind the 3-point line

UConn beat PC in every statistical category.
