RI's Beisel Named Captain of Women's U.S. Olympic Swimming Team

Rhode Island's Elizabeth Beisel has been named captain of the women's Olympic swimming team. 

She was one of three captains selected, serving alongside Cammile Adams and Allison Schmitt. 

Now competing in her 3rd Olympics, Beisel is coming off of a silver medal in the 400 IM and a bronze medal in the 200-meter backstroke at the 2012 Summer Olympics which took place in London.

The 2016 Olympic games open on August 5 in Rio. 

Elizabeth Beisel 

Beisel was born in Saunderstown, Rhode Island and graduated from North Kingstown High School in 2010. 

Following high school, Beisel went to the University of Florida where she won 9 Southeastern Conference (SEC) individual championships. 

She was named SEC Female Swimmer of the Year in 2012.
