Top Golf has announced it is officially opening in Cranston on Friday

“Enjoy our climate-controlled hitting bays for year-round comfort with HDTVs in every bay and throughout our sports bar and restaurant. Using our complimentary clubs or your own, take aim at the giant outfield targets and our high-tech balls will score themselves,” says the business, which is open 7 days a week.

"Cranston City officials were complaining that the new Top Golf facility was to be named 'Top Golf Providence.'

Those Cranston officials —  who were not facing criminal charges — were obsessed by the perceived slight.

In recent weeks, a state senator, a member of the city council, a member of the school committee, and a former mayoral candidate have been charged with a sweeping array of crimes.

But now all is well in Cranston.

Mayor Ken Hopkins said in a statement Friday, 'The people of Cranston are very excited and proud to have a venue like Top Golf coming to our city, as has been evidenced by conversation over the last couple of days. We are delighted to share that Top Golf has agreed to designate their new home in Cranston as 'Top Golf Rhode Island' - rather than Top Golf Providence.'

'This is not a slight against Providence. Providence now has great leadership in Mayor Smiley, who is moving that city in the right direction. I am greatly appreciative of the cooperation and open-mindedness of Top Golf’s executive management and their response to my request. This sends a message to the people of Cranston and the state of Rhode Island that Top Golf cares about our residents,' said Hopkins.

'Symbolically, this was important to Cranston, and it gives our city more proper recognition as the host community for this great entertainment and economic venture,' said Hopkins.

He added, 'Of course, we still welcome and are proud of companies like Providence Lacquer, Supply, Texas Roadhouse and the Olneyville New York System in Cranston as long-standing and thriving businesses.'
