Top New England Sports Figures That “Pulled a LeBron James”

The Red Sox were fortunate to bring back John Farrell before the 2013 season.
LeBron James made the biggest news of the day Friday when he announced he was “going home” to the Cleveland Cavaliers as a free agent.

James played his first 7 seasons for the Cavs before leaving for Miami under a cloud of scrutiny in 2010.

James’ return to Cleveland got us thinking about prominent New England sports figures that left the local team only to return in future years.

As for ground rules, we’re only including people who left a position only to return to that line of work, eliminating former players now in the media or coaching ranks.   We opted to include coaches that accepted a higher coaching position to return to the organization they originally departed.  We opted to include players who were traded and coaches who were fired, so not all examples will be strictly free agency-based.
