Gallup’s Economic Confidence Index Rises to +5

Gallup's U.S. Economic Confidence Index has risen to +5 for the week ending on January 25. This is the best score since the recession and is three points higher then the week prior which came in at +2. 

The confidence index has now been in positive territory for five consecutive weeks after it was in negative territory since Gallup began tracking confidence in 2008. 

The confidence index is based on the average of two components. The ratings of American's on current economic conditions along with their views on the state of the economy.

For the week of Jan.25, 28 percent of American said the economy was "excellent" or "good" while 26% said it was "poor." Meanwhile, 51 percent of Americans said the economy was "getting better" while 44 percent believe it is "getting worse"

These Gallup polls are based on telephone interviews with 3,027 adults, aged 18 and older living across the U.S.  from January 19-25 of 2015.
