As it is fifty percent of how we communicate — fifty percent is our physicality — I thought people are losing their voice,” said Tulli-Hawkridge. “When I was working with young women in particular, I found that they were less wanting to communicate and less ready to communicate, and I thought, this was the work I was meant to do.”
Tulli-Hawkridge said that there are several major focus points that she shares with her students in the School of Continuing Education at Providence College, including:
* Be an active listener -- try staying calm, quiet and focused.
* Understand communication styles, and know the difference between aggressive communication and assertive communication.
* Understand your personality to find and refine your own best communication style.
* When it comes to public speaking, focus on being prepared and present, not on being perfect.
“Providence College has been amazing — I’ve been affiliated with PC since 1998,” said Tulli-Hawkridge. “I love the students, I love the platform that Providence College has built for students — recently, 'speaking across the curriculum' has become a huge thing for Providence College. I’ve met a lot of students, and it’s been a great gift to me."
Providence College School of Continuing Education offers a variety of courses like Tulli-Hawkridge’s, as well as degree and certificate programs to help people build and advance their careers, and is also among the most affordable continuing education schools in the area.
