PC Names Dr. Quincy A. Bevely, Sr. as PC’s inaugural vice president for institutional diversity, equity and inclusion

Providence College President Fr. Kenneth R. Sicard, O.P., Ph.D., announced today that he has named Dr. Quincy A. Bevely, Sr. as PC’s inaugural vice president for institutional diversity, equity and inclusion.  Dr. Bevely, currently the assistant vice president for institutional diversity, equity and inclusion, will assume this new role on July 17th of this year and will be a member of the Cabinet.

Bevely joined Providence College in July 2016 as assistant dean of students and director of cultural education in the Student Affairs Division. He was promoted to the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as assistant vice president and Title VI coordinator in March 2019. Bevely is also co-director of the Dialogue, Inclusion and Democracy (D.I.D.) Lab, and an adjunct faculty member at PC. Beverly has taught courses in PC’s Development of Western Civilization program, in the Global Studies major, in Public and Community Service Studies and Elementary/Special Education, in the School of Continuing Education and in the College’s Master’s degree in Higher Education program.

“I am confident that Quincy is the right choice to lead our DEI efforts going forward. He knows our institution well, and he has established important and substantive relationships with many of our students, faculty and staff. He has a strong vision as to how we can move PC forward on DEI matters which aligns with my own thinking on these issues,” President Sicard said.

A native of Chicago, Bevely earned both his undergraduate degree in Psychology (2010) and a Master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education (2012) from Northern Illinois University.  He also earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counseling and Student Development from Kansas State University (2021).  He is a member of the National Association for Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE). He is an accredited senior diversity officers through earning certification in NADOHE’s Standards of Professional Practice Institute (SPPI) for Chief Diversity Officers.  In addition, Beverly has represented the College in the Inclusive Leadership Program of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, the Consortium for High Achievement and Success, and at the Senior Diversity Officers meeting for the annual American Catholic Colleges and Universities organization.

Bevely and his colleague, Dr. Nicholas V. Longo, were the recipients of a $250,000 grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations in July 2022 in support of Conversations for Change, a campus-wide initiative to promote civil discourse across campus and in the local community. Conversations for Change is designed to foster skills for active citizenship by strategically embedding dialogue and deliberation in courses, student life, and professional development opportunities. Conversations for Change provides student leaders, faculty and staff with skills to facilitate dialogue related to disputed questions locally and nationally.

Ocean State Job Lot’s Director of Leasing, David Steinberg, Honored with the Distinguished Service Award by the International Council of Shopping Centers

Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL), a leading discount closeout retailer headquartered in Rhode Island with stores throughout New England, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, is pleased to announce that David Steinberg, Director of Leasing, was recognized by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) for his outstanding service to the marketplaces industry. Steinberg’s ICSC’s 2023 Trustees’ Award was presented on May 21 during an ICSC volunteer brunch and reception at Wynn Hotel and Resorts Las Vegas.

The Trustees’ Distinguished Service Award is a lifetime achievement awarded by the Board of Trustees of ICSC to volunteers devoted to the industry and going above and beyond.

Steinberg joined ICSC in 1992, and his volunteer work has been vital in helping the association promote marketplaces and spaces where people shop, dine, work, play, and gather as foundational and vital ingredients of communities and economies.

“I am humbled and honored to be recognized by the ICSC,” said David Steinberg, Director of Leasing, OSJL, during the reception. “I’ve always considered myself fortunate to serve ICSC and our members as a volunteer over the years, a group committed to furthering the vision of its founders to share and exchange ideas, providing exponential benefit for our own companies and industry at large.”

“David’s decades of volunteer work with ICSC has played a valuable role in our own growth and success, as it increased his visibility among brokers, developers, retailers, and others,” said John Conforti, Chief Financial Officer, Ocean State Job Lot. “We commend him for his commitment and are proud to have him on our team.”

Steinberg’s quarter-century-plus of ICSC committee service has included positions as Connecticut Retail Chair, three years as Connecticut Operations Chair, a term as Rhode Island Next Generation chair, one as New England Next Gen chair, and three years as Eastern Division Retail Chair, all preceding his current five-year role as New England Marketplace Council Director. A highlight of Steinberg’s ICSC service was chairing the New England Idea Exchange event in Boston in 2017.

Steinberg has worked in all aspects of shopping center leasing and development. Prior to joining Ocean State Job Lot in 2011, he worked for 12 years with Konover as Vice President and four years with Herlis Realty as Leasing Director. Steinberg lives in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.

Jones Joins Residential Properties

Residential Properties Ltd. announced that Broker Associate Lisa Jones has joined the talented team of real estate professionals at our Providence office. She grew up in Rhode Island, living in Riverside until age 13 and then on Providence’s Smith Hill. Since high school, she has lived predominantly on Providence’s East Side but has also resided in Cranston. She lived in Florida beginning in 2000 and served on the Minneola City Council for eight years, organizing a community mural project to brighten up a section of the South Lake Bike Path. “This project is one of my proudest professional accomplishments,” Jones said. “We were able to raise funds, secure artists of various ages, and bring to life more than 20 beautiful community-themed murals, creating a bright, cheery space for locals and visitors to enjoy.”

Formative years in Florida

Real estate became her career in 2007, coinciding with the Great Recession; a time of constricting lending rules and dropping property values. This particularly precarious time proved pivotal in shaping Lisa’s expertise as a Realtor and advisor. “The recession was a tough time for many,” Jones noted. “I am grateful that I got into real estate when I did and was able to help so many people navigate one of the toughest times in their lives.” She earned her broker’s license in 2015 and decided to open a boutique brokerage in Florida. In 2021, the end of her two-decade marriage signaled the need to return to Rhode Island, a place her heart never stopped calling home.

Earning her RI broker’s license in 2022, Jones began researching the top local brokerages. “I chose Residential Properties in Providence because it was clear I’d be joining a group of dedicated professionals focused on working together, which is refreshing in such a competitive industry,” Jones added. “I was also attracted to the tools Resi provides and the fact that they have a sizable, in-house marketing, photography, and videography department – another rarity!”

Reuniting with Rhody

For Jones, family life revolves around her daughter, a recent graduate of UMass Boston, and two adorable kitties that helped her adjust to life as an empty nester. She maintains an active lifestyle full of reading, spending time with friends, dancing, and dining at some of the state’s best restaurants. She has made the transition back into Rhode Island living easily and happily. “I love soaking in the beauty of RI,” Jones said. “We have an amazing history, and a state founded by one of the greatest independent thinkers of our time, Roger Williams – one of my idols.”

As she begins another pivotal point in her professional life, Lisa is keen to settle into the RPL family, from its robust continuing education offerings to its community engagement. Mainly, however, she is brimming with a love for the Ocean State that she is excited to share with her clients. “This state is unlike any other,” Jones said. “It’s been called, ‘the biggest little state in the union,’ and I wholeheartedly believe that. We’ve got the city, beaches, wooded nature trails, rock climbing, and some of the most stunning views in the nation. I know people who take our state for granted, but after two decades away, I am lucky to once again be able to call this amazing and diverse place home!”
