Rep. Morin Expresses Disappointment in CVS Health Layoffs

State Rep Michael Morin
Representative Michael Morin of Woonsocket expressed his disappointment with CVS Health’s announcement on Friday that they are planning to lay off 250 employees at its Woonsocket headquarters.

“We’ve always been grateful for CVS’ partnership with the city of Woonsocket, but at the same time, the state has been very generous to CVS, so it’s extremely disappointing that the company would choose to lay off so many employees here in Woonsocket. I feel especially sad for the laid-off employees and their families, particularly given the timing as we begin the holiday season. I sincerely hope that CVS is serious about its promise to try to move as many of them as possible into other positions, because these are people with families counting on them, not just numbers that affect the company’s bottom line,” said Morin.

Morin added that the state may examine whether it is still getting a good return on its investment of tens of millions in tax breaks it provides to CVS Health every year.

He also added that he will work with other state officials to ensure that those who are laid off are provided all available assistance from the state in terms of re-employment assistance and help applying for unemployment benefits.
