Smart Benefits: Is Your Package Competitive? What’s New in Employee Benefits

Several high profile companies are leading the way in employee benefits by offering innovative perks to attract and retain top talent. The latest offerings among these employers include:

•    A Free Lunch. A TripAdvisor, employees get free lunches, snacks, and beverages 
•    Unpaid Leave. Adobe has two paid company breaks during the week of July 4 and between the Christmas and New Year's holidays and offers a sabbatical program that allows for additional weeks of paid time off after a certain number of years of regular, continuous employment.

•    Parental Benefits. Netflix announced this month that it will now let new moms and dads to take off as much time as they want during the first year after a child’s birth or adoption, besting the 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave guaranteed by law.
•    Fertility Treatments. Last fall, Apple announced it would offer workers up to $20,000 for female employees to freeze their eggs.
•    Travel Credits. Airbnb offers employees $2,000 a year in travel credits to go anywhere in the world.
•    On-Campus Retail Outlets. Microsoft has a social hub called The Commons, which offers a salon and mini-day spa, mail center, bank and 11 different restaurants.
•    Legal Aid. Google workers get legal advice at no cost and, in the US, also get common legal services at a generous group discount.
