5 Weekend Musts: Day of Portugal + More

It's a full-fledged summer weekend, Rhode Island, from festivals to outdoor tennis. Where will you have your fun?

Day of Portugal, Providence

Saturday-Sunday Celebrate Portuguese Heritage at the “Day of Portugal” Festival this weekend! On Saturday, stand along the Waterplace Park Basin to see a Portuguese-themed Kick off of WaterFire starting at 7:45 pm with a Portuguese folklore dance and music exhibition. Stick around for the torch lighting followed by the Procession of Torches and Flags to the Bank of America City Center for the Opening Ceremonies at the Arraial at 9pm. Entertainment will be provided by Sandy Berto, Jorge Ferreira and his Band. Start off Sunday with the Day of Portugal Parade, which steps off via Canal Street to the Bank of America City Center at 1pm. Afterwards, enjoy the dance performances of the Rancho Folcloric Dance Groups and entertainment of Joey Medeiros, Martinho & Speedlimit Band, The Portuguese Kids.

2nd Annual Seaside Village Fair, Narragansett

Saturday Spend the day with your family at the 2nd Annual Seaside Village Fair! This free event features different activities for all family members. Enjoy live dance and music performances while grabbing a bite from stationed food vendors. Children can take part in art and crafts activities and the Kid’s Tea Party. Don’t miss out on the special promotions in local shops and restaurants and check out the photography, mix-media, graphics, textile, and printmaking work of local artists and craftspeople! Admission is free and parking shuttle trolleys will be available all day.

The Wilbury Group presents The Threepenny Opera, Providence

Friday-Saturday The Wilbury Group will have its last two performances of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s The Threepenny Opera this weekend to culminate its two-week show schedule. Artistic Director Josh Short and Providence Director/Musician David J. Tessier re-team to direct this musical on a bitter tale of betrayal for a predatory outlaw known as Mack the Knife. After secretly marrying the daughter of Soho’s underworld boss, Mack the Knife is first betrayed by his evil in-laws and sent to prison. He is betrayed a second time by a prostitute and sentenced to death. However, the plays end on an ironic tone as Mack manages to reprieve from Queen Victoria at the final hour.

Block Party At Providence’s Children Museum, Providence

Saturday-Sunday Join the party at the Providence’s Children Museum this weekend! Kids can play and learn while constructing their own buildings and structures with the Museum’s massive collection of colorful building blocks. Let your children’s imagination run wild as they build and stack blocks of all shapes and sizes.

US Pro Singles, Newport
