The Blackstone Valley Tourism Council announced that its educational boat, The Explorer, will return for the 2019 season.

“The Pawtucket & Seekonk Rivers, as well as the Blackstone River, have served people for millennia. They have been a source of food, drinking and bathing water, travel, and power supplier. Today, it is vital that all people living in this watershed are stewards of the river for future generations,” said Marina Flannery, Director of Environmental Education.

Tours will run every Sunday afternoon at 1 PM, 2 PM, 3 PM and 4 PM beginning May 19, 2019, from Festival Pier, 100 Tim Healey Way, Pawtucket.

The Tours

The 50-minute guided tours provide guests a chance to view the Pawtucket/Seekonk River.

Guides will explain Pawtucket’s Shipping and Textile industry while learning about the river’s ecosystem and how being the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution made Rhode Island a powerful and profitable region in the United States of America.

First, trips will travel north for a quick view of Pawtucket Falls and a glimpse of Slater Mill from below the falls.

Then the boat will head south toward East Providence and Providence passing by locations of the Pawtucket Harbor to Swan Point Cemetery.

Binoculars and nature guides are provided during the trips to further enhance the experience.
