Fit for Life: Crush Your Goals Now

If you are the type that always wants to be better and achieve more, then you have a vision and a set of standards that you follow in hopes of achieving these goals you have set.
Creating goals gives us a target to work towards and adds some direction in our lives so we are not just walking around in circles doing mundane tasks that consume our time.

Losing weight / improving one’s health, and making more money are usually at the top of people’s immediate goal lists as well as things like going on vacation to recharge or calling a friend or family member more often.
However, many of us set these goals, yet never accomplish them.
Why is that?
We want these things to happen, we tell ourselves that “this time” I’m going to do it, yet a majority of the time we fall short.
One of the main reasons we fail, is we never create a plan or strategy to accomplish them.
It’s like wanting to go to Hawaii, yet never booking your plane ticket.
You will have this dream and goal, yet no plan or system to get there.
So, what does it take to accomplish a goal or task that we mindfully want, yet never physically accomplish?
I created an acronym using the word GOAL, to help you create a strategy to accomplish what you set out to do.
G- Go big.
Set unrealistic goals for yourself and try to overachieve.
In Grant Cardone’s book, the 10X rule (a business book), he says that whatever your goals are, you should try to achieve 10X what you originally planned.
His philosophy is that when you fall short of your 10X goal, you still will have accomplished a lot more than you originally wanted to achieve.
So, if you want to make $100,000 per year, shoot for a million, because if you fall short and only make $250 K, it’s still more than you would have accomplished shooting for $100K.
The same goes for your health and fitness. If you want to lose 10 lbs. set your sights on 20. When you hit 15, you will still be better than if you only tried for 10. This isn’t exactly 10X, but the concept is to aim higher than what you expect to achieve, or what you could accomplish too easily.
When you set goals that are too easy, we get complacent after we achieve them, so challenge yourself to go above and beyond what you think is possible. Aim for perfection but be happy with excellence because nobody is perfect.
O- Obstacles. Expect them and plan for them because they are EVERYWHERE.
Business, health, and life, in general, is full of obstacles and setbacks. When creating goals, go all-in with plan A, but be prepared to pivot and change directions in order to overcome anything that gets in your way.
If you are in a weight loss phase, and you hit a holiday, or go on vacation, you need to figure out a way to stay on your journey while still being able to enjoy yourself.
When a pandemic hit, and you have financial goals, you need to find other alternatives to make money.
Life is full of them, and we need to be ready, so these obstacles are temporary and won’t derail us completely.
Turn every obstacle into some sort of opportunity, and don’t wait for the perfect time to start taking action on your goals.
A- Appreciate the wins. When we set out to do something out of our comfort zone, we will hit obstacles, setbacks, and losses, so it is important to celebrate some wins and not dwell on the losses too long.
Say you only lose 1lb. during a weight loss journey, and your goal was 2lb. per week, you still count that as a win because you moved forward.
When a member cancels their membership at Providence Fit Body Boot Camp its’s a loss, however, we focus on generating new members, and count the wins over the losses.
Yes, it still hurts, and is discouraging, yet we can’t be consumed with every loss because that will set the tone for negative energy. We realize that not everyone is cut out for our program, and learned to accept that fact and focus on the folks that see the value in our program and are serious about their health.
When you look at the big picture, you will always find pro’s / con’s and wins and losses, so it is important to keep stacking the wins and build momentum every time you accomplish something that moves the needle forward. Celebrate briefly, then move on to the next task.
L- Luck is never a factor, so don’t rely on it to make your goals magically come to true. I heard a saying “The harder you work, the luckier you get”, so be prepared to work hard for anything worthwhile that you wish to achieve.
That person is lucky, they never gain weight, or that person is lucky, they make money easily, are just symptoms of comparison syndrome and comparison is the thief of joy.
When you look closer, you will see that nothing comes easy, and most overnight successes didn’t happen overnight, so don’t rely on luck to achieve your goals, prepare to work for it.
S- Set up Systems.
This is the most important component to achieve any goal. This is your GPS, and guide to success.
First, recognize the overall goal, then reverse engineer the steps needed to reach the final product.
If you need to save X amount of money by Christmas for that family vacation, break it down to how much you need to save each week in order to accomplish that number.
If you want to lose 30lbs, write that number down, and hide it somewhere. Then focus on losing 2lb per week. Realize that every bad thing you eat, or drink will hold you back, and focus on crushing one week at a time.
Imagine looking up a 1000 step staircase.
Should you focus on the top step before you begin? No, you focus on the 10 steps in front of you, then the next 10 steps, then the next 10 etc.
When you are always looking at the top step, it makes your goal look bigger than it really is, and could cause you to get discouraged and quit, which is the reason a lot of us never achieve our goals.
We spend too much time worrying about the end result and forget to follow the process to get there, so create a system, or GPS then follow it one step at a time.
Lastly, you need to take action and get moving. Take small steps but just take steps.
Don’t wait until you buy a new exercise outfit, start by taking a walk today.
Don’t wait for an opening in your trainer’s schedule, stop eating sugar today.
Don’t wait until you get an extra $100, save $20 today.
Small steps build momentum, so don’t skip steps in the process, because you will lose momentum.
Regardless of how small or big of a step you take, any step is better than nothing.
The problem with most of us is that we procrastinate and wait for the perfect moment to start taking steps toward our goals.
I told a friend of mine to buy a house 20 years ago, but he kept saying “next year” when I get that promotion. After the promotion, he said “next year when I can save enough for 20% down.
20 years later, he still rents, and has zero to show for it, so don’t wait until “next year” to get started.
News flash, there will never be a perfect moment, and imperfect action is better than no action at all, so start this process by taking action TODAY.
