Fit for Life: You Know What Drives Me Crazy?

You’ve probably had or heard a conversation before that went something like this:
Person 1: I’m gonna need more coffee! I only got 4 hours of sleep today, and I’m working 12-hour shifts the next 3 days!
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTPerson 2: I hear ya! I only got 3 hours of sleep cause the baby was up all night, and I’m working this weekend to get this big project done!
I never understood when kids in college would brag about pulling all-nighters or even taking their roommate’s Adderall to stay focused.
NOTHING could make me miss a good night’s sleep or a workout because I knew that if I didn’t take care of ME, I would only be able to give half effort to other people and things.
I stress this to my team all the time. We need to work hard, but we need to rest easy, so we can be charged up to pour into our members.
Instead of bragging about how stressed and sleep-deprived, we are, let’s flip the script and brag about how consistent we are with the things that fill our cup!
It starts by knowing yourself and knowing what things fill your cup and what things drain it, then finding a way to balance them.
Things that fill our cups:
• A good night’s sleep
• Making time to move or exercise every day
• Eating healthy foods
• Drinking adequate amounts of water
• Reading self-development books or listening to podcasts.
Things that drain our cups:
• Stress
• Travel
• Certain types of work projects / unrealistic expectations
• Too much social interaction/gossip on social media
• Lack of nutrients, or poor forms of nutrients
• Dehydration
• Excessive screen time / too much news
• Lack of quality sleep
I know that if I want to feel energized and present, I must make sure I am consistently doing the things that fill my cup!
If you have young kids, or people depending on you, you don’t have to be a martyr who takes care of everyone else first.
You must fill your cup before you can be there for others, or you are only giving 1/2 of yourself.
Even Crazier
You know what else drives me even crazier?
When folks claim to be too busy to take care of themselves or use time as an excuse.
“I don’t have time” is the worst excuse you can have, and I’ll prove it right now.
We ALL have the same 24hours, so even if you get the required 8 hours of sleep, and say you work a 12-hour day, you still have 4 hours left. At Providence Fit Body Boot Camp we get it done in 30 minutes, so even with the adequate sleep, and an unusually long workday, you still have a lot of time to take care of you.
So, when you say you don’t have the time, you are really saying, “I’m not a priority” because we ALL have the time for the things that are important to us.
And what drives me the craziest is when someone says they can’t afford a program that will guarantee success, yet they have all the latest toys, gadgets, and find the resources to buy fast food and other things detrimental to their health.
What’s more important, the newest I phone, 200 cable channels, or your health?
Once again, when we make something a priority, we will always find a way.
When you have all the perks in other areas if your life, yet say you can’t afford your health, you are really saying, “I’m not worth it”.
The bottom line is that we DO have the time and money to take care of ourselves, but some don’t value themselves, or aren’t in enough pain to take action.
Sometimes it takes a scare from the doctor, or witnessing someone else suffer, to turn the light on and make one decide to better their health.
Many take it for granted, but the ones that do the work, and succeed will always see and feel the benefits.
It’s not an easy thing to do, however with the right mindset, creating the proper habits, and incorporating a few simple hacks to your day, you will be on your way to a healthier and happier lifestyle.
