Fit for Life: The World Is Against You, Either Fight Back or Be a Victim

There is no such thing as an easy life, and I say this because unless you are extremely lucky, you will face challenges and obstacles from the time you wake up until your head hits the pillow at night.

Every day, and some days more than others.

We must fight to survive and thrive. Humans are the underdog. We are put on this earth to struggle for survival just like every other living being.

From the beginning of time until now, we have proven to be resilient and have the power and control to fight adversity and setbacks, because they are a natural occurrence in all of our lives.

We are a species of survivors, otherwise the human population would become extinct if we just threw in the towel and gave up.

You might be saying “What the hell Coach, this article is discouraging”, or you may be saying “You are absolutely right, I can relate to all of this. Whatever you’re thinking, read on.

We have a choice, we can either play victim and ask “why me” all day long or we can come to the realization that life is hard, and we need to attack it head on and be prepared for the adversity that’s guaranteed to come our way.

The world is against you in every element

From birth, there are obstacles standing in your way. Babies are fragile and need an incredible amount of care and attention in order to survive and thrive from day 1.

As kids, there are struggles too. One may think that kids have no issues or problems, because they are dependent on their parents for survival, but what about the ones that have no parents or bad ones?

Then there are the possibilities of being bullied or encountering harm in other ways.

Again, the fight for survival rears its ugly head, so be prepared at any age.

When you are in business its competition, and the fight to acquire clients and customers.

Every business has competition trying to steal what’s theirs, and there are always customers looking for other options, so it’s up to you to prevent this from happening by overdelivering on your promises and creating value.

As we get older, while trying to stay on point with your health and nutrition, there are factors that will fight you regardless of how hard you try. There are diseases and sickness that can attack anyone, even if you are conscious about your health. Once again, our survival instinct needs to be activated.

In relationships there is always an element of struggle, regardless of how much you like someone.

I am not just talking about your spouse or significant other.

There are working relationships, and friendships that face adversity and make it challenging along with outside circumstances and human personalities that differ on many levels.

So, from birth til death, we will all face struggles and adversity, so what are our options to lessen the sting when it happens?

Here’s the solution to make it better. NOT EASIER.

Control what you can, cope with what you can’t and concentrate on what matters is the first step.

Program your mind that you will win regardless of the odds stacked against you.

Some things are unattainable, your health and fitness are not one of them.

You are unlikely to be a world class quarterback and win 7 Super Bowls, or even come close to breaking Usain Bolt’s track records but maintaining a high level of health and fitness is in most people’s reach, and attainable with time and effort.

Here is where that control factor comes in.

As I said earlier, disease can strike the healthiest of us, however, if you are in good shape, you are less likely to get sick, and when you do, your recovery time decreases significantly.

Some tasks will be impossible for most of us to do, eating right and exercise is not one of them.

Many people will never become billionaires or even millionaires, regardless of how hard they work and try, but if you focus on your health and fitness, you have a high likelihood of success.

Yes, working hard is in your control, yet many people will never make millions, due to the fact that every element of the journey isn’t in their control, however when you focus on your exercise and nutrition goal, make smart choices, and exercise discipline, being fit is far from impossible and within your control.

Tell yourself every day that you are NOT entitled to an easy life. Realize there is no such thing as easy.

Here is where we cope.

Sometimes when I am up at 4am I ask myself, “What did I do wrong with my life that I need to work so hard?’ Then I flip the switch and ask, “Why should I get an easy life, when everyone needs to work hard to earn a living?” Then I practice my gratitude and acknowledge that I am lucky to be doing what I love, by working with people and changing their lives for the better.

Expect to be challenged and prepare for it.

This is my best coping mechanism, because when you prepare for the worst, everything else is easier to keep in perspective.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am not looking for problems, and I am always optimistic that things will turn out ok, however, I always prepare myself for what could go wrong. I don’t dwell and over think it, just prepare for adversity while focusing on a positive outcome.

Suffer on purpose.

That’s right find something that makes you uncomfortable and do it anyway.

If you don’t feel like getting a workout in, do it anyway and push yourself harder.

Wanted to go outside, but it’s cold and nasty out? Go anyway.

Never seek the easy or comfortable route, or you will never see growth.

Embrace the suck and everyday issues become easier to handle.

I force myself to finish every shower with 30 seconds to 1 minute of ice-cold water.

After a nice hot shower, that cold water is miserable, but I do it anyway.

This helps me build resiliency and I leave with the feeling that nothing can get in my way the rest of the day.

Hire coaches and ask for help.

It’s impossible to go it alone, and everyone needs help in some areas of their lives. A good coach will push you to your limits and challenge you to get better. I have several business / life coaches, and everyone has had a positive impact on my life.

All of us coaches at Providence Fit Body Boot Camp do the same for people regarding their health and fitness.

We don’t do the work for you, but we point you in the right direction, and challenge you to do your best.

We are experts in our field, and you probably aren’t, so seek the help required to succeed in every area of your life.

Lastly, let yourself heal. Your survival depends on it.

Yes, I am an advocate of pushing to the limits, no excuses, and suffering for what you want, but I also realize that things that are broken, are not effective, including us. Rest, proper nutrition, sleep and hydration are essential in order to survive and thrive at the highest level.

There is no honor in burning out or breaking yourself down.

Yes, life is hard, but it’s even harder when you lack physical stamina and endurance, so in conclusion, you need to take care of you in order to be able to show up as your best version.

This is the “Concentrate on what matters most” part, and in my opinion the most important.

Nothing matters when you are injured, sick, or lack the mental focus to accomplish your goals or be present for the people around you. Not money, not your business, and not your favorite hobby or pastime.

Nothing matters more so concentrate on you before it’s too late.

Just remember, a healthy person has a million dreams and desires, but a sick person has only one.
