Tomorrow is Record Store Day, a time to support local merchants engaged in a most imperative economic activity – the sale and distribution of vinyl. Throw in a little Tex-Mex and the voice of Yes … indeed, some great vibes await.

Record Store Day – Saturday April 19

Tomorrow afternoon, What Cheer Records on Thayer St. has several in-store performers appearing for Record Store Day. Starting around 3:30, check out Cotton CandyBrother Kite and Arc Iris. Another popular Providence store, Olympic Records on Wickenden St. promises tons of special RSD releases plus big discounts on used CDs. East Bay fans should head to In Your Ear, on Main St in Warren. They’re giving away 100 free canvas LP bags to the first 100 customers. They’ve also got a storewide sale along with DJs “Will I Is” and Kellan spinning tunes from new RSD releases and more.

Kevin Costner and Modern West at Twin River

Tonight, Twin River has a big show with Kevin Costner and Modern West. The band is a serious enterprise for the well-known actor; you’ll hear a tight mix of Country/Western tinged Rock and Roll. The band has received some great reviews - they mix in a few covers along with a number of original tunes. A limited number of tickets remain starting at $42. The show begins in the Twin River Events Center at 8PM.

Alejandro Escovedo at Narrows Center

Tomorrow night, head to the Narrows Center for one of Bruce Springsteen’s favorite artists, Austin based Alejandro Escovedo. The two recorded a duet “Always a Friend” in 2008. Escovedo began his career in the proto punk group “The Nuns,” a band that opened for the Sex Pistols final show. In the 80s, he shifted course to a Tex-Mex flavored brand of Americana, full of catchy lyrics and upbeat melodies. He’ll be with his band, The Sensitive Boys. Tickets are $25, $28 at the door for the 8PM show. Amy Cook opens.

David Wax Museum at Columbus

Tomorrow night, Providence’s Columbus Theatre hosts the acclaimed “Mexo-Americana” band, The David Wax Museum. The indie group has received a lot of mainstream attention in recent years, after dazzling on the main stage at Newport Folk in 2011. They’ve got a unique style - you might even hear original member Sue Slezak on donkey jawbone. Fans of Calexico and Los Lobos will want check out their contemporary folk sound. Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 at the door. Wooden Dinosaur opens at 9PM.

Jon Anderson at Stadium Theatre

Yes fans won’t want to miss the legendary Jon Anderson in a special acoustic show next Tuesday April 22 at Woonsocket’s Stadium Theatre. You’ll instantly recognize Anderson’s unique voice in the beautifully restored theatre, a great place to hear the Yes classics along with Anderson’s solo work.
