Stages of Freedom presents “Frederick Douglass in Newport” a free virtual talk with Dr. John Rice Thursday, November 19th at 6pm.

Rice, descended from the prominent 19th century Newport African American Rice family, will discuss Douglass’ regular visits to Newport, his relationships with his great grandfather, Isaac Rice, and other figures in Newport, such as George T. Downing, the nation’s leading Black caterer at the time.
