Newport Historical Society to take part in 1st Freedom Open House TourThe Newport Historical Society is taking part in an open house event with over a dozen houses of worship in Newport.
The following properties of the Newport Historical Society will be open for free from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4.
Colony House, Washington Square
The Great Friends Meeting House, 21 Farewell St.
Seventh Day Baptist Meeting House, 82 Touro St. Enter from Barney St.
Other participants include Channing Memorial Church, Emmanuel Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Zion AME, Newport Congregational Church, St. John the Evangelist Episcopal, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Touro Synagogue, and Trinity Episcopal Church.
Open House Tour
Participants are invited to visit Washington Square for a morning of patriotic activities, including a reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon.
Throughout the day, come to more than a dozen houses of worship for a free tour to learn how the building or the congregation that worships there symbolizes Newport’s commitment to freedom of religion and religious diversity.

Waterfire

Waterfire is back for the summer and it's an event and experience that must be had.
As GoLocalProv reported, WaterFire will begin the 2019 season with a basin lighting on Thursday, May 23 or the National Association of State Treasurers Treasury Management Training Symposium and the first full lighting of the season will be Saturday, June 22.
Waterfire is Providence's signature event bringing in people from all over New England and the country to see it.
