Pawtucket Arts & Culture Adds 2 Awards Recognizing Kids With Disabilities

The Pawtucket Arts and Culture Commission has announced two new awards to recognize Rhode Island youths with disabilities who have made a difference in their communities.

“Creating a better society for Americans with disabilities takes both young and old advocates. The actions of these young nominees showcase what achievements young people can make,” said Miriam Plitt, Chairperson of the Pawtucket Arts & Culture Commission.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by Mayor Donald Grebien and Pawtucket's Arts and Cultural Commission and is set for Friday, August 14 at 1:15 p.m. on the third floor of Pawtucket City Hall.

The two awards will be given to young, disabled youths, who for one, made a positive difference in the Blackstone Valley community and the other for contributions statewide. The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, July 31.

“The nominee does not have to be a ‘professional’ advocate but should be effectively and creatively working to make a difference,” said Dr. Rosemary Burns, VSA Arts Board of Director President.
