Photo of the Week: Goodbye to the Dog Days of Summer

While the summer season still has another month, the "dog days" are officially over. 

According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the Dog Days span July 3 to August 11—a 40-day stretch following the summer solstice that carries the season’s peak heat.

This week, Sue Marte captured her sweet pup having the beach all to herself on Block Island.

"It [was taken] on our early morning walk on Mansion Beach," said Marte, of the photo snapped on Wednesday, August 13. "She never goes to the beach without her frisbee." 

When asked if the spectacular shot could be the photo feature on GoLocal, Marte said her pup more than obliged. 

"Opal loves the spotlight," laughed Marte. 

A talented artist, Marte's work can be seen at a new exhibit at Spring Street Gallery on Block Island - the opening reception is Saturday from 5 to 7 PM.
