Providence Ranks As Fun, But Not Vegas Fun

The City of Providence is a fun place, but just not as fun as Las Vegas.

According to a new study completed by WalletHub, Providence ranks 87th best in the country when it comes to most fun cities, while Las Vegas ranks as the most fun city.

“Everyone likes to have fun. But we all prefer our personal brand of a good time. Some people like trying new restaurants, traveling, going to bars and clubs or playing outdoor sports. Others enjoy riding roller coasters, going to the movies, or playing video games. But having fun can be expensive – the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average American spends nearly $3,000 on entertainment per year,” writes WalletHub.

The only other Rhode Island city to make the list is Warwick, which ranks 160th out of 182 ranked cities.

The Rankings

Providence ranks behind Irvine, California and Mesa, Arizona, who rank 85th and 86th respectively.

Providence ranks ahead of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Glendale, Arizona, who rank 88th and 89th respectively.

Las Vegas ranks as the most fun city in the country, while   Pearl City, Hawaii ranks as the least fun.

The Method

In order to determine the most fun cities in the U.S., WalletHub compared 182 cities — including the 150 most populated U.S. cities, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state — across three key dimensions: 1) Entertainment & Recreation, 2) Nightlife & Parties and 3) Costs.

WalletHub evaluated those dimensions using 66 relevant metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the greatest number and variety of fun and cost-effective activities.

Lastly, WalletHub determined each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and ranking.
